Physical Education
Kit requirements
Students are expected to bring and wear PE kit to all practical Physical Education lessons, including enrichment lessons, training sessions and practical BTEC Sport lessons.
They may wear either:
- The Academy PE polo shirt or The Academy black reversible outdoor top
- Black shorts or black tracksuit bottoms (one thin piping line only is permissible)
- Plain white socks. Either football socks or sports socks
- Trainer (moulded boots or blades are acceptable for the astroturf pitches, but not indoors)
PLEASE MARK ALL ITEMS OF KIT WITH NAME AND TUTOR GROUP SO THAT IF LOST AND FOUND THEY CAN BE RETURNED.
Should any student fail to attend lessons in the correct kit they will be issued with one of the two following sanctions:
- Incorrect/wrong kit (without a note) 30 minutes class teacher's detention
- No kit at all 45 minutes teacher's detention
Jewellery may not be worn in lessons. Students will not be allowed to partake in lessons if they are discovered to be wearing school shoes, their outdoor coat or any part of their school uniform under their PE Kit. These decisions are based on both health and safety and personal hygiene grounds. They will be issued with a 30 minute class teacher's detention.
Illness and Injury - Being excused from lessons:
Should any student be unable to participate in a practical lessons through illness or injury they will need to bring in a note to excuse them which has been signed and dated by a parent/guardian. Failure to provide a valid note of excuse will result in the issuing of a 45 minute class teacher's detention.
Any student excused from full participation in PE lessons due to injury or illness is still required to attend the lesson in full kit. Failure to do so will result in a 45 minute class teacher's detention.
We do require students not participating in lessons to still wear their PE kit as in many cases they are able to participate as a coach or helper. Even if their injury or illness prevents a simple role in the lesson they are often required to be outside observing the lesson, which can result in becoming cold and wet. To change out of cold wet clothes back into a dry warm uniform to spend the rest of the day will prevent further discomfort and potential illness. We would recommend that students wear the appropriate kit for the weather conditions.
Values & Belongings
Changing rooms are locked for lessons. However, any item left in the changing room is done at the owner's risk. The Academy cannot accept any liability for the loss of items from its changing rooms. Due to both security and health and safety all belongings must be left in the changing rooms and not brought into the teaching area, unless authorised by the member of staff leading the lesson.
