Arrangement for Lockers

Students have the opportunity to access a personal locker which is located in pupils' tutor room. A locker will be valuable to store school texts and any PE kit. As a key will be issued to each student for a locker, it is necessary to pay a £5 refundable deposit. This will be returned when the key is handed over at the end of study at the academy. In the event of the key being lost, a student would need to provide a further £5 deposit for a new key. It is hoped that this will be an incentive to be responsible for the key so the inconvenience of replacement is avoided.

To secure a locker, families should credit £5 to their parent pay account, accessed via the school website.

Conditions on issuing a locker key are as follows:

  • Students must not share lockers and are responsible for their own keys.
  • No items forbidden from school, including perishable food and drink, may be stored in lockers. Any items of clothing should be taken home to wash regularly, avoiding anti-social odour.
  • Students will be able to access tutor room lockers only during registration in the morning. Access will be denied at other times as these are teaching rooms for staff other than the tutor.
  • Students should not stick or fix anything to lockers - inside or outside. Lockers are identified by number.
  • Whilst the academy will endeavour to be vigilant, there is no liability for loss of items from lockers. Therefore, students must not store valuables in lockers.

We hope that students use lockers responsibly in a way that will make academy life easier. The academy reserves the right to withdraw access to a locker where the privilege is abused.

E-Safety Rules

These e-Safety Rules help to protect students and the Academy by describing acceptable and unacceptable computer use.

All students use computer facilities including Internet access as an essential part of learning, as required by the National Curriculum. Both students and their parents/carers are asked to sign to show that the e-Safety Rules have been understood and agreed when the student is starting at the school. Below is a reminder of the rules and the agreements that are signed.

  • The Academy owns the computer network and can set rules for its use.
  • It is a criminal offence to use a computer or network for a purpose not permitted by the Academy.
  • Irresponsible use will result in the removal of network privileges or Internet access.
  • Network access must be made via the user's authorised account and password, which must not be given to any other person.
  • All network and Internet use must be appropriate to education.
  • Copyright and intellectual property rights must be respected.
  • Messages shall be written carefully and politely, particularly as email could be forwarded to unintended readers.
  • Anonymous messages and chain letters are not permitted.

  • Users must take care not to reveal personal information through email, personal publishing, blogs or messaging.
  • The Academy ICT systems may not be used for private purposes, unless the Principal has given specific permission.
  • Use for personal financial gain, gambling, political activity, advertising or any other illegal purpose is not permitted.
  • The Academy may exercise its right to monitor the use of the Academy's computer systems, including access to web-sites, the interception of e-mail and the deletion of inappropriate materials where it believes unauthorised use of the Academy's computer system may be taking place, or the system may be being used for criminal purposes or for storing unauthorised or unlawful text, imagery or sound.
  • The Academy's Acceptable Use Policy has been drawn up to protect all parties- the students, the staff and the Academy. A copy of the Academy's Acceptable Use Policy is displayed in each computer area and is attached to this document. It will be kept up to date and the latest version will be available on the Academy website.

Student Letters to New Students

Year 6 is probably the best year you have enjoyed during your time at primary school. It is a year you will never forget. As you are moving onto different Secondary Schools you may have to say goodbye to some of your friends but do not fear you will make new friends. Some of you may think that it is going to be hard to move on, but change is important!

Lanfranc is an excellent school and the system is very easy, if you follow the school's rules and principles, you will be successful! Lanfranc is a unique institution, the teachers teach fun and challenging lessons and the building is safe and modern, a perfect place to learn and grow!

The staff help and guide you to discover your potential but the key is to know your TIMETABLE! To be successful at Lanfranc you should be prepared and have all of your equipment especially your 3 P's. If you are worried about getting lost there is guidance on the walls and the classrooms are clearly numbered!

Secondary school is an important part of your education, so do not fear to take part in it. When you arrive in September ask for help if you need it!

I'm so happy to tell you that The Archbishop Lanfranc Academy is an amazing school, all of the staff help you with everything you need. When I joined I was really worried about the teachers, the work and especially the homework. It took me a couple of weeks to get into a good routine and the teachers were really supportive. I now feel ok and get all of my preview completed when I get it.

My top tip is to get the work done as soon as you get it, don't wait till the weekend to complete your preview! I know it's going to be hard for all of you because you can't see the school building, but there is going to be a virtual tour on the transition page on the website this will help you get more familiar with the different areas!

I also play in the school football and Basketball team, when you arrive make sure you go to lots of after school clubs this will help you make new friends!

The teachers are working hard so you will have the best experience ever.

Levi

My name is Joshua and during this time I know that you might be anxious or even excited about coming to a new school and leaving your primary school.

The school gates open at 7:45 and school starts at 8:15, this gives you enough time to talk with friends and find your tutor group. On your first day it will only be year 7's and there will be a lot of teachers to help you. My favourite lessons are citizenship and Humanities, during these lessons we have conversations and are able to share our opinions on different matters of life. I also like PE because we have good facilities and a lot of equipment, throughout the year we are able to learn different types of sport such as table tennis and badminton.

Once a week we have a class called enrichment, which you get to choose and during the lesson you can learn a new skills in different sessions for example, chess or football.

At lunchtime you will queue up to choose your food (I personally like the patties) and you will have time to go outside and play with friends. On the first day you are given a water bottle so you don't need to bring your own and there is plenty of seats in the canteen for you to eat your lunch.

I think Lanfranc is a good school and you will have an amazing time.

Thanks, Joshua

Here at Lanfranc there are a number of amazing opportunities that you may not have had at primary school. The school has many rooms, each fitted for a certain subject, and there are lockers in your form room that you can use in the mornings. The school has a nice selection of food and you can eat at break and lunchtime, there is always a vegetarian option and the muffins are good!

The staff are really helpful and supportive and if you are uncertain about something you should ask for help! Do not worry about asking silly questions, every question is important

The subjects we learn in this school are English, Maths, Spanish, Humanities, Citizenship, Science, PE, Food Tech, Computing, Art, RE and Music.

My top tip is to go on the residential, I had a lot of fun and made lots of new friends!

Kieran

On the first day of school I was a little worried because I didn't know what to expect. None of my friends from my primary school went to Lanfranc so I had no-one to talk to! Within 5 minutes of me arriving at school 3 girls came over and asked if I wanted to be their friend, I said yes and now they are my best mates at Lanfranc. Everyone is really nice and friendly!

The teachers are really helpful and caring but they make the lessons hard and interesting. They're really easy to talk to when you need help or have a problem. A lot of the older students helped me when I first arrived, I got lost a couple of times and the year 10's helped me get to my lesson! The prefects are really helpful, I want to be a prefect when I get into year 10.

I really like being at Lanfranc and I hope whoever reads this letter will feel the same when they arrive! Joining Lanfranc last September was the best thing I have ever done!

I hope you have an amazing time and if you need help, just ask 😊
